No post yesterday, it’s now 14th April and I’m only on Day 09 of the A – Z Blogging Challenge. Why no post yesterday – I fell asleep!
I spent most of yesterday on one of those dreaded “team building” exercises with the rest of the University Finance Department. The morning was spent discussing feedback, how to give it and how to receive it. Having been self employed for nearly 20 years, I’m having a bit of trouble buying into the “touchy feely” side of work in a large institution. But I managed to bite my tongue and play the game!
In the afternoon we went to Go-Ape. I’ve copied the extract below from their website to give you an idea of what’s involved:
About the experience
It’s not in the dictionary, but if it was, Go Ape would be described as a ‘tree-top adventure’.
We take one lush, green forest and a healthy dollop of breathtaking scenery; blend with a smattering of tree-top high wires, tricky crossings (using ladders, walkways, bridges and tunnels made of wood, rope and super-strong wire) and wind-in-your-face zip wires; finished off with a liberal dose of people in search of their inner Tarzan.
We kit people out with harnesses, pulleys and karabiners, give them a 30 minute safety briefing and training and let them loose into the forest canopy, free to swing through the trees. Of course, instructors are always on hand, regularly patrolling the forests (not in monkey suits unfortunately!)
The result is spectacular. The Go Ape experience gets the adrenalin pumping, gets people out of their comfort zones and above all (no pun intended), it’s just great fun.
It’s the tree-top adventure that everyone is talking about!
Not being a fan of heights, I wasn’t looking forward to it, but I managed to complete the course, so I was well chuffed at that, the only injury sustained being a small blister on my finger!
Anyway back to the Blogging Challenge, as it’s Day 09, we’re now on the letter I.
There could only be one I and that is Inside Journeys, the blog of my buddy Marcia, who has been a consistent commenter on my blog and an inspiration to me as I continue my blogging experience. So I is for Inside Journeys!
